Second Genre Photoshoot

My second genre was food, so I centered this photoshoot around a cake I baked from scratch. My goal for this shoot was to clearly capture the steps of baking a cake. I wanted the background to be free of any mess and I made sure to keep lighting and location consistent for the steps. As for taking pictures of the finished cake, I wanted the backdrop to be dark to create a more dramatic shot. Furthermore, I wanted to take the images from varying angles to create more variety.

A shot I believe was a success was the ones where the ingredients were laid out. I also really like the photos of the final cake because of the background and angle. One struggle I had was getting the lighting right on the pictures with the finished cake since it was already dark outside. To fix this, I used the flashlight option on my phone.

I received very helpful feedback from my classmates. For example, they said the final cake's background could've been lighter to make it stand out more. Another piece of constructive criticism was that the cake looked a little bit messy. In the future, I'm going to be more conscious of how clean the pictures look as well as use contrasting backgrounds to bring more attention to what's in focus.

In the end, I’m very proud of how the photo shoot turned out and it’s very much how I pictured it.
