Cover: First Draft

The first step in creating my final magazine cover was to come up with and create a couple of drafts. I had several ideas that I wanted to include, so splitting them up between two possible covers helped me to narrow down what I wanted the cover page to look like.

I used Canva to create my cover page. I quickly ran into a problem with my masthead font, though. The font was very thin and since my cover image was busy and multicolored, it was very hard to see the text. To fix this problem, I switched over to a bold, san serif font called "Futura".

Option 1

My favorite part about this cover page is the border and text colors since it plays off of the marinara sauce and the bowl that it's in. I also like how "In The Kitchen" is on both the border and main image.

Option 2

This cover page is my favorite out of the two. I think the charcoal black border makes it more dramatic and less busy. Plus, the text pops more. Also, the dateline placement feels much more natural compared to option 1.

After considering both options, colors, and layouts, I decided to go with Option 2. I believe that more work still needs to be done before it becomes my final magazine cover page, but I'm excited to see how it will change.
