Second Draft: Decisions and Revisions

It became clear after my classmate's critiques that my magazine was far from finished. To make my second magazine draft, I reviewed the feedback I received from my classmates. They gave me valuable insights and new ideas to help make my magazine the best it can be.

Sticking with the program Canva, I decided to begin by editing my cover page. In the critique, I was told to make the barcode narrower and place it on the left-hand side as opposed to the right. Also, my classmates said that the cover lines should be smaller and that flipping the fill and outline color of the text would make it more readable.
Next was the table of contents. This one didn't have nearly as many critiques as my cover page, but the subtle changes are what made it even better. My classmates said that I should take out the word "crazy" and replace it with "mind blowing" in one of my cover lines, so I reworded it from saying "A look inside this crazy restaurant" to "A look inside this mind-blowing restaurant". After that, I moved "contents" over to the right so that the spread flows better.

Lastly, I worked on my double-page spread. My classmates said that the ingredients section was missing something, so I added a couple of lines to make it look more structured. Furthermore, one of the main critiques of my double-page spread was that it felt empty. To fix this, I hand-drew several pieces of gnocchi, a bowl of marinara, and some basil online to add new colors and shapes to the spread. I also recolored the steps on my recipe page so that they were consistent.

After applying all of their critiques, I was left with a second magazine draft that is more cohesive and visually appealing than the first draft. However, there are still a few things I plan on changing on the cover page. For one, I prefer the puff with the main headline, "Quick and Easy Gnocchi", inside of it to be directly underneath the bowl of gnocchi at the bottom of the page opposed to the top left. Additionally, I think that the dateline would look much more professional if the date was on the left side of the masthead and the issue number was on the right.
