Now that I've shifted my focus to my final photoshoot, it came time to decide where I am going to be shooting and what the set will look like. Since my magazine is in the food genre, I am planning to shoot it on a wooden cutting board. This is because it's visually appealing and has a neutral color palette which will allow it to complement the colors of the dish I end up making. I will put the cutting board in front of a window so that I can get as much natural daylight as possible. I think that daylight has a nice, soft effect on images. An issue I may face is that there may be an overcast the day I decide to shoot. While I won't be able to get any daylight, I could always use a lamp or flashlight to recreate a similar look. I will be doing this in my own home therefore the schedule is flexible and I'll have easy access to my props and equipment.
Below are examples I found online of cutting boards and a window showcasing natural lighting.
